Across technical presentations and exhibition showcases, IMID 2026 underscored the continued momentum of the OLED ecosystem, with advancements spanning new form factors, manufacturing approaches and display performance.

Showcasing Innovation and Supporting Ecosystem Development

IMID 2026 marked an important milestone in UDC’s longstanding partnership with the conference, featuring the unveiling of the OLEDX technology platform, the 10th anniversary of the UDC Innovative Research and Pioneering Technology Awards and the Company’s continued sponsorship of Korea’s leading technical display forum. In an invited presentation, Dr. Mike Weaver, VP & Deputy Chief Technology Officer of PHOLED R&D, introduced OLEDX, UDC’s breakthrough technology platform designed to unlock new levels of efficiency, image fidelity and design flexibility for next-generation displays.

The proprietary platform builds on UDC’s decades of OLED innovation and deep expertise in materials, technologies and systems to improve how light is extracted and utilized within OLED displays, while providing display makers with greater control over how that light is delivered to the viewer. The introduction of OLEDX reflects UDC’s continued innovation and commitment to advancing the future of OLED technology.

Behind every breakthrough is a foundation of exceptional research and experimentation. This year’s conference also marked the 10th anniversary of the UDC Innovative Research and Pioneering Technology Awards, a program established to recognize outstanding research and achievements advancing organic electronics and display technologies. The awards reflect UDC’s longstanding commitment to fostering innovation, supporting scientific talent and helping shape the future of the OLED industry.

Beyond the technical sessions, the exhibition hall highlighted the breadth of innovation taking place across the OLED industry. Samsung Display (SDC) and LG Display (LGD), two of UDC’s long-standing partners,  showcased exciting advancements ranging from next-generation form factors to new manufacturing technologies designed to enhance OLED performance and production.

At its exhibition booth, Samsung Display showcased a new 7.6-inch Wide Viewing Angle foldable OLED designed to reduce brightness loss around the display crease. The company also highlighted the industry’s first 16-inch, 2.5K OLED gaming laptop panel with a 300Hz refresh rate, 31.5- and 34-inch QD-OLED monitors with 360Hz refresh rates, and a 20-inch stretchable display.

Together, the demonstrations illustrate how OLEDs continue to advance across gaming, foldables, and entirely new form factors, expanding the range of devices and experiences OLED displays can enable.

LG Display highlighted advances in OLED manufacturing through its FMM-Less Innovative Pixel Patterning (FLiPP) process, a maskless OLED patterning technology designed to improve display performance and manufacturing efficiency.

According to LGD, FLiPP increases the proportion of the display covered by red, green and blue pixels by about 55%. This delivers several notable benefits, including 1.6 times higher brightness, 2.4 times longer lifetime, and 13% lower power consumption. LG Display also indicated that the technology can be applied across a wide range of panel sizes and resolutions, with initial plans focused on IT displays, such as tablets and monitors, before expanding to products ranging from wearable devices to TVs.

The announcement highlights the continued focus across the industry on advancing OLED manufacturing technologies to support future improvements in performance, efficiency and scalability.
